Immune Support

Image
Germs Here, Germs There, Germs Everywhere! Your immune system exists to protect against and respond to infection (such as bacteria, viruses, parasites, or fungi) with a systemic method of chemical defense and attack. Your immune system is always on alert and functions as an organized coordination between almost all body systems to keep you alive and in harmony with your living environment's exterior and interior terrain. Some of the integrated parts of your immune system include your blood, the lymphatic system, the spleen, the thymus gland, the skin, the mucous membranes, and the digestive system. These organ systems each have their own nutritional needs and requirements to maintain a balanced, strong, and healthy immune response. Three years into the pandemic, there has not been one mainstream media message about how to stay healthy except to wear a mask, avoid others and get a vaccine. This message does not promote health – it is about avoidance of getting sick which is...

Insomnia Natural Remedies

Image
Insomnia Natural Remedies - Sleep Time is Healing Time Sleep time is healing time. It is just as vital to our health and survival as food, water, and air. Sleep is an innate behavior that is programmed into the core of our very existence. Unfortunately, sleep deprivation is one of the most harmful things someone can do to their bodies, on par with abusing drugs, consuming excess alcohol, eating a poor diet, and smoking. Sleep is a biological need that is so important that you will die without sleep, and sleep deprivation can be used as a method of torture So why do so many people choose to torture themselves? The effects of sleep deprivation are both obvious and insidious and have short and long-term impacts on our health. Not getting a good night’s sleep affects mental and emotional health, clarity of mind, memory and concentration, temperament, immune function, tolerance for daily stressors, libido, hormonal cycles, recovery time, and can cause inflammation and pain. What is mo...

Immune Health for COVID-19

Image
Since the onset of the pandemic, fear has become the most pervasive psychological side effect of COVID-19. This fear can manifest in many ways, such as insomnia, anxiety, OCD, and depression, due to the impact of constant and stressful thoughts like, "Am I going to die if I get this?" I completely understand why and how people are feeling because the media has given little advice on how to stay healthy, and we are drowning in a bombardment of COVID-19 news cycles that have shown little hope. It's a travesty because the medical community which controls the information disseminated to the public does not readily embrace prevention in general or alternatives to medicine. The medical approach is not focused on health. It is focused on the search for disease - it is disease care, not health care. I want to be very clear here - I support the medical approach 100%, including medications and surgery when it is necessary. I have received medical care and so have my children when m...

Aging and Longevity

Image
Lifespan is the most misinterpreted statistic in the modern world. How long you live represents very little about health. It seems to be a point of boasting in the US, but our country falls behind 45 other countries in the industrialized world. When you follow the money, you will find that how long you live as a nation means nothing when it comes to maintaining health. Keeping people alive longer is great if they can enjoy their day-to-day existence, but most older people in the US spend the last five years of their lives on 5-10 medications and in an infirmed state. What I’d prefer to see as a measure of health could be best represented by how vital people are as they age, how few medicines they are on, how active are they? What is their body composition? What type of lifestyle do they lead? How is their cognition? How do they feel?  I came across a fantastic article entitled “Healthspan is More Important Than Lifespan, So WHY Don’t More People Know About It?” ( publichealt...

In today's world of social media and connectedness, any narrative can be pushed and influence the masses in a matter of minutes. The Coronavirus narrative is no different than any other big story that burns on the internet...

The History of Saunas

Image
The History of Saunas  For nearly 10,000 years, people have been using heat for many reasons. From outdoor fires for cooking and warmth to indoor heating to boiling water and creating steam, every culture has definitive reasons why saunas are essential to the culture and belief system in the area. We talk about how various ethnic regions used bathhouses and steam rooms to fulfill social, health, and enlightening goals in this article. We will also touch on the newest treatments helping people detoxify and purify the body and soul. In Finland, saunas are a necessity, not a commodity The oldest use of saunas dates back to 7,000 years B.C. Finnish people are thought to be the first people to use these hot boxes. As the society grew, so did the use of steam rooms. Today, nearly 3 million saunas are in use around the country. Almost every house has a hot room. For the Finnish, congregating in a steam room is an everyday activity. This country is a leader in dry heat therapy,...

How to Use Endorphins to Your Advantage

Image
Endorphins are a chemical that the brain produces to help a person block out any feelings of pain or discomfort. These chemicals attach themselves to receptors in the body. Endorphins block these receptors from getting pain signals. They also create a high feeling that many can associate with the high that one gets from opioids. People cannot overdose on endorphins, but this also means the high is not as intense as taking drugs like heroin. Another critical thing to note is that endorphins are not addictive. How the Body Releases Endorphins Exercise is the primary way the body releases these chemicals. It takes a long and intense exercise session to get the full effects of the endorphins. Meditation or peaceful workout programs like yoga can also cause a release or flood of these feel-good substances. Telling a funny story or laughing is another excellent way to get the body flowing with endorphins. The body uses these chemicals to halt depression associated with chronic healt...

Healthy Stress Management Tips

Image
Stress, stress, and more stress. Stress is everywhere and a daily part of our lives. We are all exposed to constant stressors such as emotional stress, chemical stress, dietary stress, environmental stress, physical stress, electromagnetic stress, or financial stress. Our bodies are designed to deal with brief amounts of stressful events each day, to adapt to it and to rebalance once the stress has subsided. Health issues and illness arise only when our bodies can no longer adapt because the stress has become chronic and the bodies resiliency has broken down. The body is not designed for constant stress. The stress response is a primitive biological response to protect us from harm. Modern day life provokes a repetitive stress reaction that is unnatural. The cumulative nature of stress is the culprit in the causation of a majority of disease that can take hold after years or even decades of the body having to adapt. The combination of varying stressors bombard our nervous system...

Chill Space LED Therapy

Healthy skin - it's not just a superficial objective, but a biological representation of overall health. Beauty trends are shifting towards a natural look that reflects a growing mantra of wellbeing, and maintaining youthful skin is becoming an integral part of self-care. To keep up with demand, companies are constantly upgrading biochemical research, developing serums, techniques, peels, and masks, but the key to glowing skin isn't found in chemicals. The 21st-century solution for skincare is light - in a process known as photo-bio-modulation. The science of photo-bio-modulation can be fairly complex, but the process is simple. Different wavelengths of light along the electromagnetic spectrum in the form of LEDs, infrared and visible light are used to trigger a cellular response in skin cells at different layers. The application of a therapeutic dose of light is absorbed by the exposed cells causing ATP production. ATP is "the energy currency of life." All the c...

Chromotherapy - Healing with Light Therapy

Image
Healing with light and color has a history dating back to 2000 BC and is still being used in present day. Lasers, LED lights, infrared saunas, chromotherapy, and phototherapy are all advancements of an age-old concept – the energy of color and light can heal.  There are numerous references to the practice of using light as medicine date back to the ancient civilizations of Egypt, Greece, China, and India. Treatments of the day described using sunlight as it radiated through different colors of stained glass and using colored rooms, paintings, and gemstones to heal Fast forward to modern day and light therapy in various forms has become standard. Hospitals use phototherapy as a common treatment for jaundiced babies. Medical lasers are used for surgery and dentistry, and cold lasers are used to heal wounds in veterinary practices. Light therapy also treats seasonal affective disorders, depression, sleep disorders, skin diseases, rosacea, and acne. One type of light therapy tha...

Chill Space NYC is a Biohackers Paradise

Image
The process of biohacking varies wildly, but the purpose of it regardless of the method remains the same, and it answers the same question: What can I do to improve my (fill in the blank)? The "what" is where all the variety exits. Meditation is a form of biohacking as well as going for a walk in nature. But as the idea of biohacking has gained momentum "biohackers" have become focused on using technology to influence function. It's science fiction becoming real. Some methods of biohacking could be as simple as using a Fitbit to monitor day to day activities. Other methods are based on using advancements in nutrition to enhance memory and brain function, but the most popular type of biohacking is now in the form of devices or machines to help balance the nervous system. What does Balancing the Nervous System Mean? We all have two parts to our nervous called the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system. They are under involuntary control, meaning w...
