Immune Support

Image
Germs Here, Germs There, Germs Everywhere! Your immune system exists to protect against and respond to infection (such as bacteria, viruses, parasites, or fungi) with a systemic method of chemical defense and attack. Your immune system is always on alert and functions as an organized coordination between almost all body systems to keep you alive and in harmony with your living environment's exterior and interior terrain. Some of the integrated parts of your immune system include your blood, the lymphatic system, the spleen, the thymus gland, the skin, the mucous membranes, and the digestive system. These organ systems each have their own nutritional needs and requirements to maintain a balanced, strong, and healthy immune response. Three years into the pandemic, there has not been one mainstream media message about how to stay healthy except to wear a mask, avoid others and get a vaccine. This message does not promote health – it is about avoidance of getting sick which is fear

Insomnia Natural Remedies

Image
Insomnia Natural Remedies - Sleep Time is Healing Time Sleep time is healing time. It is just as vital to our health and survival as food, water, and air. Sleep is an innate behavior that is programmed into the core of our very existence. Unfortunately, sleep deprivation is one of the most harmful things someone can do to their bodies, on par with abusing drugs, consuming excess alcohol, eating a poor diet, and smoking. Sleep is a biological need that is so important that you will die without sleep, and sleep deprivation can be used as a method of torture So why do so many people choose to torture themselves? The effects of sleep deprivation are both obvious and insidious and have short and long-term impacts on our health. Not getting a good night’s sleep affects mental and emotional health, clarity of mind, memory and concentration, temperament, immune function, tolerance for daily stressors, libido, hormonal cycles, recovery time, and can cause inflammation and pain. What is more e

Immune Health for COVID-19

Image
Since the onset of the pandemic, fear has become the most pervasive psychological side effect of COVID-19. This fear can manifest in many ways, such as insomnia, anxiety, OCD, and depression, due to the impact of constant and stressful thoughts like, "Am I going to die if I get this?" I completely understand why and how people are feeling because the media has given little advice on how to stay healthy, and we are drowning in a bombardment of COVID-19 news cycles that have shown little hope. It's a travesty because the medical community which controls the information disseminated to the public does not readily embrace prevention in general or alternatives to medicine. The medical approach is not focused on health. It is focused on the search for disease - it is disease care, not health care. I want to be very clear here - I support the medical approach 100%, including medications and surgery when it is necessary. I have received medical care and so have my children when m

Aging and Longevity

Image
Lifespan is the most misinterpreted statistic in the modern world. How long you live represents very little about health. It seems to be a point of boasting in the US, but our country falls behind 45 other countries in the industrialized world. When you follow the money, you will find that how long you live as a nation means nothing when it comes to maintaining health. Keeping people alive longer is great if they can enjoy their day-to-day existence, but most older people in the US spend the last five years of their lives on 5-10 medications and in an infirmed state. What I’d prefer to see as a measure of health could be best represented by how vital people are as they age, how few medicines they are on, how active are they? What is their body composition? What type of lifestyle do they lead? How is their cognition? How do they feel?  I came across a fantastic article entitled “Healthspan is More Important Than Lifespan, So WHY Don’t More People Know About It?” ( publichealth.wustl.e

One of our strongest and basic instincts is to survive – it is a trait of our more primitive brain and exists in all life. In today's world of social media and connectedness, any narrative can be pushed and influence the masses in a matter of minutes. The Coronavirus narrative is no different than any other big story that burns on the internet

The History of Saunas

Image
The History of Saunas  For nearly 10,000 years, people have been using heat for many reasons. From outdoor fires for cooking and warmth to indoor heating to boiling water and creating steam, every culture has definitive reasons why saunas are essential to the culture and belief system in the area. For the Finnish, congregating in a steam room is an everyday activity. This country is a leader in dry heat therapy, alo

How to Use Endorphins to Your Advantage

Image
Endorphins are a chemical that the brain produces to help a person block out any feelings of pain or discomfort. These chemicals attach themselves to receptors in the body. Endorphins block these receptors from getting pain signals. They also create a high feeling that many can associate with the high that one gets from opioids. People cannot overdose on endorphins, but this also means the high is not as intense as taking drugs like heroin. Another critical thing to note is that endorphins are not addictive. How the Body Releases Endorphins Exercise is the primary way the body releases these chemicals. It takes a long and intense exercise session to get the full effects of the endorphins. Meditation or peaceful workout programs like yoga can also cause a release or flood of these feel-good substances. Telling a funny story or laughing is another excellent way to get the body flowing with endorphins. The body uses these chemicals to halt depression associated with chronic healt
